911 called for medical care & police come?!?

Question by californiadreamer: 911 called for medical care & police come?!?
Tonight I called 911 b/c my fiance (who is tall and very lean) drank an entire bottle of wine w/o eating today and was falling all over the place…at one point, he fell back and hit his head on the ground. It was SO scary…He was totally irrational and at one point, seemed like he couldn’t breath well. I don’t drink heavily and love him very much, so called “911” for an ambulance. I simply told the 911 operator my concern for his health and gave her my address.

Instead, 10 minutes later there is a really loud banging on our door…I hadn’t told my fiance I called an ambulance b/c he was so disoriented. (On a side note, our next door neighbor’s house has been vandalized lately and some of my belongings I left next to my car were recently stolen)…When my fiance heard the loud banging and my dog barking, he ran at the door…There was a cop w/ a flashlight, yelling @ him to “Get outside and take your hands out of your pockets!! Sit down on the stairs outside!!” I was PISSED b/c I’d called for medical help. I said, “Excuse me…this guy is in no way violent. I was worried about him having alcohol poisoning.” The cop barked, “Go inside!” I was really taken aback. I told the officer I was not worried for my safety, that I was completely sober and where was the ambulance?”

Long story short, the cop talked to my fiance, then left his partner outside w/ my fiance and talked to me inside, where I explained that I don’t drink much and I was simply worried for my fiance’s safety…I expressed that I was concerned that the cops were here when I had called for medical help. He made no apologies, and simply asked my fiance (a guy who’s drunk), “Do you need medical help?” Of course he said “No” and the cop said, “You almost got shot in the face…Next time you go running at a door like that, you’ll get shot in the face.”

Then, they left. Is this legal? I feel really harassed. I didn’t feel “protected” and felt like the cop actually exacerbated the situation. Is this cops’ behavior legal? It really made me feel a lack of trust in 911.
To clarify…I said I was pissed. I didn’t say I acted pissed. I was very respectful to the officers, thanked them for coming…but explained that my concern was for my fiance having alcohol poisoning. There was no reason for him to send me into the house (I was there)…So to the poster who made those assumptions, come on…
And my fiance did not “run at them”…he ran TOWARDS the CLOSED front door…it was not opened…as soon as he saw it was a cop he said he was fine, was cooperative, respectful…
Thanks for the replies…I appreciate the people who have some empathy…I obviously don’t condone drinking excessively (believe me, my fiance & I are having a talk tmrw)…But trust me on this one…We were both really nice, calm. When they banged on the door, it sounded like robbers or something…and my fiance ran to see what was going on,,,he was inside OUR house-the officer had NOT identified himself as a cop…Of course my fiance would have reason (especially based on our recent neighborhood activity) to be freaked.

It does sound wrong what the cops did. Next time dont tell them hes drunk just say hes having trouble breathing so JUST an ambulance comes………..unless your fiance is going to hurt you then call cops.
