Can we know a little more about MERP (Medi-Cal Estate Recovery Program)?

Question by CM: Can we know a little more about MERP (Medi-Cal Estate Recovery Program)?
You will be assimilated – resistance is futile !

Apparently Medicare automatically assimilates you as a Medi-Cal Beneficiary and acknowledges you “Extra Help” (which is Medicaid/Medi-Cal) if your income is the deciding point.

You don’t have to re-apply every year. It’s automatic if your situation remains the same.
Oh how convenient.

I don’t believe they tell you up front that you will be subjected to MERP as later when you find out and resist, it would be futile.

In California this year a flyer has been sent to the Medi-Cal Beneficiaries. It tells about the Medi-Cal Recovery Program – MERP. WTF? So in doing further study else-wheres – Apparently it’s a slick practice to loan you money thinking everything IS gonna be ok. In some cases it might be OK for you and not so OK. If you’re a beneficiary and don’t have a spouse or loved ones, stop here and enjoy your “Extra Help”

1.) If you’re under 55, MERP will not effect you.
2.) After your 55th birthday Merp will effect you.
For married couples – if one passes away, the surviving spouse retains everything. When the surviving spouse passes away. WHAM ! ….MERP will collect the estates.
For Domestic Partners – you will have the same status as a spouse if you file for a, “Declaration of Domestic Partnership”
For Heirs, MERP will let you know if anything is left over for you.
For Non married partners, a “Hardship” waiver must be filed out. In case you don’t want to be kicked out in the streets. You may end up negotiating a payment plan with MERP to stay under your roof.

Well, I feel it ‘s a slick plan to set yourself up for State ownership. If they were to prepare a list of what they were going after to recover “Their Money” , maybe the backlash of this “Extra Help” would go along a little more fluid.
