If you use drugs and alcohol heavily, can you become emotionally numb?

The only time I am emotional anymore is when I’m drunk or on drugs.

yes you can. Its an addiction disorder.

A lot of people have it. Emotions cause us to feel, and react as humans. Animals dont react with emotion, they react with their gut instinct.

Becoming emotionally numb means that the person has zoned out their emotions so long and so much that the brain feels like it no longer needs to use them, so the brain does not take away emotion, but instead tucks it far FAR away into the far reaches of the sub-conscious.
