Do you think mandatory parenting classes would solve a lot of problems?

Question by luckytacs: Do you think mandatory parenting classes would solve a lot of problems?
There are several examples I could think of, but here are the two most prominent:
I knew a girl who drank, smoked pot and did meth while pregnant/breastfeeding (I met her when her child was a toddler). She denied that any of these things could affect the baby.
A young man in my town was raising his infant daughter by himself. He placed his daughter in the laundry basket (which had clothes in it) and went to the store for cigarettes or something. When he came back, the baby had rolled over and suffocated in the clothes.
I’m sure y’all can all think of a time when you saw someone and thought to yourself “they are not fit/ready for a child.”
Do you think that mandatory parenting classes would fix a lot of these problems, or are you of the opinion that “stupid is forever”?
If you think classes would help, what age do you think they’d be good for?

To starry sky: The man’s in jail now (manslaughter), and the girl’s kids are living with their aunt now.
I’m just wondering if you think this could have been prevented by being better informed, or if you think they were just entirely unfit to be parents.

I think classes would help. Then theres the issue of getting people to go.
