Drug rehab in Ca. for a minor (17yr old)?
Question by vice: Drug rehab in Ca. for a minor (17yr old)?
My younger brother has ADHD, issues with substance abuse, been arrested for vandalism, and recently has made threats of suicide. My question is does anyone know of any rehab programs/facilities that could not only handle is issues but perhaps be free in the state of California? My dad and step-mom just aren’t equipped to handle him anymore and before he hurts himself (further) or others I am hoping to find a solution.

The only rehab center that I have any personal awareness or knowledge about is Visions in Malibu where two of my close friends were treated for eating disorders and addiction issues. I was only permitted to visit one of them very briefly, so I still can’t tell you too much about it from my own insight, but the location is beautiful and the staff seemed to be caring and supportive. They both felt the experience was very beneficial to them. The center isn’t free, though. I think they do work with insurance and possibly offer financial breaks under certain circumstances, but normally it’s something outrageous – like over $ 50,000 a month. It’s worth checking out their website and perhaps writing to them to ask about their fees.
Perhaps social services for your county could guide you, and if your brother has a physician ask your parents to speak to him or her about the situation and get advice on treatment. They should also speak to their insurance provider (if you have one) about coverage for facilities. You’re very loyal and caring to be so pro-active about seeking help for your family, and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to do more for you. I hope someone else can.
~ Peace
