Frightening Marijuana Experiences – Please Help Me!?
Question by Zachary Keller: Frightening Marijuana Experiences – Please Help Me!?
First of, I do not smoke weed very often. I have smoked probably 6 or 7 times. Two of those times I experienced the worst feeling of my life (the same feeling). The first time occured after some drinking, smoking some cigars, and then finally a watergate? (water bong). Since I had drank, smoked cigars, and smoked weed, I couldn’t really narrow down why it happened but it was VERY bad. I turned extremely pale, started vomiting, and started screaming “I Need Help!” Just to clarify this was not the first time I smoked weed. The second time this reaction occurred was a couple days ago. I did smoke a fair amount, more than I usually smoke when I do, and as soon as it hit me I knew I was having the reaction I had had before. I started panicking because I remembered what happened last time and it was hell and I didn’t want to go through it again. I experienced much of the same side effects but I did not vomit this time, although I was very pale. I really can’t describe what has happened to me those two times but I will list some symptoms which I experienced.
– Anxiety and panic.
– Impaired attention, memory, and psychomotor performance while intoxicated.
– Disturbance of consciousness (i.e., reduced clarity of awareness of the environment) with reduced ability to focus, sustain, or shift attention.
– A change in cognition (such as memory deficit, disorientation, language disturbance) or the development of a perceptual disturbance that is not better accounted for by a preexisting, established, or evolving dementia.
– The subject is most concerned about losing control or even of losing his or her mind (The first time I was afraid I was dying).
I have narrowed it down to an acute panic reaction to marijuana or toxic delirium. I don’t think I am allergic because it doesn’t happen all the time. Also the drugs were not laced because in both cases other people who smoked were fine. Please help me pinpoint what exactly is going on, although I am fairly sure I will never smoke weed again.

You most likely have generalized anxiety when you’re sober and the marijuana exacerbates it. If you take care of managing your anxiety when you are sober, after treatment you should be fine when you smoke pot. You could try to take 1 hit, wait an hour, take 2 hits, wait an hour, take 3 hits, wait an hour, etc. so that you can be in control and see that there’s nothing to be afraid of. But mostly, you should probably just not smoke pot because it is very likely to make the mental conditions you already have worse, which it sounds like in your case is what it is doing. Think about the pros and cons and which one is heavier and I think you’ll find that you won’t be missing out.
