Did the U.S. government really give our soldiers meth to make them fight?

Question by Dru: Did the U.S. government really give our soldiers meth to make them fight?
I want to make sure that you understand that I DON’T BELIEVE THAT OUR GOVERNMENT HAS TO GIVE ANY OF OUR SOLDIERS ANYTHING TO “MAKE” THEM FIGHT… I RESPECT ALL MILITARY AND HAVE THE HIGHEST ADMIRATION FOR ANYONE THAT SERVES! I asked this question because I was reading a history article today and it said that the Japanese invented meth and used it to make their soldiers fight… that Hitler was addicted to it and used it as well and that the U.S. government used it during World War II and that more U.S. soldiers used it during Vietnam than anyone else in the world… The article also said that after World War II the Japanese had a stockpile of it and opened it for public use until they discovered the side affects… Is any of this true? Does our government give our soldiers drugs in order to make them more alert and fight harder?? I believed the part about Hitler, but not that our government would do this… however, there are probably a lot of things I would be surprised our government does. Just wondering what your opinions or experiences were… I didn’t even know meth was around then…. I thought it was something new…

Soldiers have used Meth, Heroin, and all kinds of things to continue fighting when they were tired or hurt so they could keep going in the past and there are old advertisements for these if you look hard enough you will find them, they were used. Link please I would like to read the article to see if it is one I haven’t seen.
