New Years Day changed everything in the life of Thuringias Christian Democrat state premier Dieter Althaus,when he collided with a 41-year-old woman on a ski slope in Austria. He has since recovered from a coma,but Beata Christandl died from her injuries. A hurried trial held in his absence and with the public excluded – found Althaus guilty of negligent homicide. Althaus is still in a rehab clinic recovering from his brain injury. Thuringia is holding state parliamentary elections in August,and Althaus has made it clear he wants to remain state premier. We look into his personal story and what the events mean on a human,moral,and also political level.
