Very interesting video talking about Health Canada’s reasons for preventing the sale of electronic cigarettes in Canada. This video is from May 5th, 2009. Host Jay Ingram interviews associate professor Carl Phillips of the University of Alberta as he discusses his research on e-cigarettes. He is studying quality control as well as the electronic cigarette’s potential impact on society, both on current smokers and non-smokers. Prof. Phillips first talks about what an e-cigarette is, what it contains, and how it works. He then talks about the safetey issues with e-cigarettes in Canada, and why Health Canada isn’t going to approve them for sale in Canada. The main issues are: Quality control, nicotine poisoning, addiction, and the long term effects of propylene glycol on the body.
