Cancer Treatment Centers of America Stands Up to Cancer
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 7, 2010
Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) today announced a new partnership with Stand Up To Cancer(SU2C), a grassroots movement that is transforming cancer research and raising research funds at unprecedented levels. As part of its mission to change the face of cancer care, CTCA has pledged to support SU2C’s engagement of the American public, and to fund innovative cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.
“The key to breakthroughs in fighting cancer is right in front of us.” said Steve Bonner, president and CEO of Cancer Treatment Centers of America. “As we work with SU2C to inspire the dedication and courage of the American public and the scientific community, we will innovate more quickly, and bring hope to more cancer patients. Stand Up To Cancer and Cancer Treatment Centers of America share a dedication and intensity to change how we conduct research and how we deliver care.”
“Stand Up To Cancer has been making significant progress in facilitating new ways of doing cancer research,” said Laura Ziskin, co-founder of Stand Up To Cancer. “Cancer claims 1,500 lives every single day in this country, and has become a leading cause of death worldwide, so the need for more and better treatments has never been more urgent. CTCA understands this need and we are extremely grateful for their generous support and dedication in the fight against cancer.”
For more than 20 years, CTCA has provided cancer patients with the available state-of-the-art therapies to fight cancer combined with scientifically supported complementary therapies to boost their immune system, reduce side effects and improve their quality of life. Every day, doctors across the country at CTCA work to integrate care plans with the right combination of personalized treatments for cancer patients, empowering them to make the best choices for their healing.
“Curing cancer is about options,” says Edgar D. Staren, MD, PhD, MBA, FACS, chief medical officer and senior vice president for clinical affairs. “We can no longer accept thinking that limits treating cancer. If a tumor doesn’t respond to one therapy, what can we do to change it? What can we do change the biology or chemistry of the cancer cells to make it respond?”
The Gateway for Cancer Research, a charitable partner of CTCA that funds innovative cancer research, joins CTCA and Stand Up To Cancer in support of this important mission. “We share a goal of making more treatment options available to cancer patients that can save lives now. Together, we can help speed research from the lab to the bedside and make a real difference in the lives of patients today,” said Lynette Bisconti, president of The Gateway for Cancer Research.
The CTCA-SU2C alliance kicks off just as SU2C returns to primetime television on September 10, 2010, at 8:00PM ET & PT / 7:00PM CT. The one-hour fundraising event will be simulcast live and commercial-free on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Bio, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, mun2, Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, The Style Network, TV One, and VH1. The star-studded show combines entertainment with an appeal to build continuing public support for cutting-edge cancer research that translates the latest developments in laboratory science to treatments and technologies that benefit patients. One hundred percent of all donations received from the public will go directly to cancer research. Viewers will have the ability to donate via a dedicated phone line, the web, or through text.
