Horizon Academy Very Involved With Local Community of Amargosa Valley
Hurricane, UT (PRWEB) August 26, 2006
The last few months for Horizon Academy have been very busy. Horizon Academy has been very involved with the local community of Amargosa Valley.
We were involved in several service projects including painting and cleaning up the renowned Amargosa Opera House. We also had several students participate in the summer reading program at the community library. They had the opportunity to assist local children by reading to them, checking in/out library books and promoting the importance of reading.
Upper status students had the opportunity to attend the Nye County Coalition meeting. They offered to assist local law enforcement and other substance abuse organizations to fight against drug and alcohol abuse.
A large number of Horizon Academy students participate in Amargosa Days. We had two teams participate in the boat race. They helped build two boats and they finished back to back — first and second place. Students prepared chili and cornbread and entered the local chili cook-off and placed first in several categories at the talent show.
During the last basketball season, several of our students were able to participate in games against the local high school. These eligible young men practiced hard to become their best and set a powerful example of endurance, confidence and good sportsmanship. We also created a cheerleading/pep squad of eligible girls. They practiced their cheers, chants and creativity in preparation for ballgames and added an energetic dimension to the exciting atmosphere. Their bright faces illuminated the stands with smiles and confidence.
We had three students graduate the program last week. We want to congratulate James Hunter, Anthony Carkins, Brandon Saari and their families for all of their hard work. It was a pleasure to work with each of you and we will miss you very much. James, Brandon and Anthony have contributed so much to our school it won’t be the same without them. We will miss their smiles around campus and wish all of them the best of luck.
