“Father, I killed my monkey.” Bliss opens To Venus and Back on a very dark note. It’s hard to imagine a lyric more compelling and eerie than the above opener. This is a fun song to play. To Venus and Back is a space oriented journey that begins in topics of despair, with dead monkeys, maquiladora girl ritual murders (Juarez), self-mutilation (Concertina), and heavy cocaine use (Glory of the 80’s), and gradually returns to earth, oceans specifically.
