HELP! “friend” is telling the police I stole a car with him! I DIDN’T!!!?

Question by I’m a Christian Woman!: HELP! “friend” is telling the police I stole a car with him! I DIDN’T!!!?
A “friend” of mine stole a car and wrecked it, then brought it back to the scene. I was outside when the car was brought back, but I didn’t wait around long enough to see anything else. A witness told the police that the “friend” took the car, and that I was just outside when the car was brought back. Now the police are questioning the “friend” and he confessed that he did it, BUT HE SAID I WAS IN THE CAR WITH HIM!??

What can I do??? Will the police believe him? Is there anyway I can defend myself? At this point it’s his word against mine. I didn’t do this! Will this go to court etc. etc… Also, he has a criminal record, he went to jail for selling shrooms, and he’s been in trouble for marijuana posession before. I have a clean slate completely. How far will this go?
