Part 2 – Castle Craig – How Alcohol Affects The Brain

Dr Peter Geerlings and Dr Geert Dom present at Castle Craig’s 2008 annual reunion. In Part II they discuss brain functioning within addiction, they address anhedonia, how dopamine levels in the brain are affected by substance misuse and how the brain of an addict ‘learns’ to crave stimulae from alcohol and drugs and ‘forgets’ the importance of natural stimuli. They explain how abstinence can be difficult to begin with. However we learn that the brain can recover.
