Police officer hit me, wants to blame someone else?

Question by Ribbons: Police officer hit me, wants to blame someone else?
Yesterday I was doing the speed limit in a 25 MPH zone, when a police car came flying towards me with his lights flashing, he had to have been doing 50-60 MPH, he came around a curve and slammed right into my car. I felt the impact then went spinning several rotations up the road. Thankfully, none of us were hurt, just scared half to death. The officer got out and walked to my car & asked if we were okay, then said “Do you have a preference as to which wrecker service you’d like to use?” I couldn’t even think at that moment, I got out and looked at my car. The back driver’s side was smashed in, the wheel shredded, the rim bent, etc. After quite some time the county police showed up and asked us the same 2 questions. There was no investigation to speak of. There were signs along the road warning of tree work being done in the neighborhood and the officer said he swerved to miss the sign and that’s how he hit me. Now the police aren’t taking the blame, they told me they were going to try to hold the tree trimmers liable for both cars. Now my car, my only mode of transport, is sitting in the back lot at the wrecker service, we can get no answers from anyone. Neither insurance company, the police department, nothing. I have full coverage but found out too late it doesn’t cover rentals. I have much to do and no car and no way to get a car. Does anyone have ANY advice at all? Thanks…
Consulted three different law firms, all of which said that unless there was some bodily injury, nothing could be done.
