Drug Abuse – The 7 Traps Of Drug Abuse
Drug abuse – if you knew what your life would end up looking like as a drug addict, Iâm sure youâd never start. So here are some of the traps Iâve seen.
Â
Trap #1 â Youâre hooked before you know it. Some drugs instantly hook you, while others slowly pull you in.
Â
You want to fit in. You want to be accepted by your new friends. So you take the drugs when theyâre offered. After all, doing it just once wonât hurt! How could having all these good feelings be so bad?
Â
Trap #2 â Your finances go down the drain as you now use your money to buy drugs, instead of food and other necessities.
Â
Always seeking the next âhighâ or a better âhigh,â you are persuaded that this next hit will provide it. In fact, youâll do anything to get the money to buy the drugs.
Â
Trap #3 â You start doing bad things in order to feed your habit.
Â
You find yourself doing things you never dreamed you would ever do. Things like lying to friends and family. Stealing. Selling your possessions, or someone elseâs possessions. You donât return phone calls. You avoid your friends. You lose close family relationships.
Â
Trap #4 â You begin to bargain with God.
Â
âGod, if youâll get me out of this mess, Iâll do whatever You want me to do.â You wait for God to miraculously cure you of your addiction. And if He doesnât, you turn your back on God.
Â
Trap #5 â You feel so sorry for yourself that you donât even try to quit.
Â
Youâve reached the bottom of your life. You think youâll never get out of the hell hole youâre in. You listen to others tell you that since your drug addiction is a disease, youâll never be able to overcome it, only manage it. (This is a lie, by the way!)
Â
Trap #6 â Your body and health deteriorates.
Â
Your body wastes away from the drugs and lack of healthy food. Your teeth begin to rot. Your face looks hollow.
Â
Trap #7 â You now live on the streets or in a homeless shelter.
Â
The drug now controls you completely. Youâve lost your career, your home, your family, and all your friends. Youâve given up on yourself.
Are These Traps Permanent?
Â
No! Despite what society tells you, or what you tell yourself, there is hope for you to get out of each one of these traps.
Â
How? First, by uncovering all the lies youâve been told about your drug addiction. Lies like:
Â
Itâs not your fault
Itâs a disease
Itâs hereditary, itâs in your genes
Youâre just like so-and-so and he/she never amounted to anything
Youâll have to be in a recovery support group the rest of your life
It will take years, if ever, to completely stop your addiction
No one will ever love you again
Youâve messed up your life so bad that youâll never have a chance at your dreams
Youâll never be able to restore broken relationships
Youâll never get your children back, based upon your background
Â
The process to get you out of these traps is too long for this article. But it got me out of my ten-year struggle with an addiction to pain pills. And I’ve been completely free for over 20 years.
