IDF soldiers speak out

Jordan TV 090715 [LinkTV/Mosaic] – Israeli soldiers have given testimony that in some cases the Israeli army made use of Palestinian human shields in its war on Gaza in January. The accounts, from the Israeli human rights group Breaking the Silence, provide yet more proof, if more is needed, that Israel stood in grave contravention of the laws regulating combat behaviour and should be charged with war crimes. The use of human shields is only one issue. There have been several well-documented instances of so-called white flag killings: the shooting at unarmed civilians clearly carrying the internationally recognised sign for surrender, a white flag. There is the use of certain chemical weapons, such as white phosphorus shells, in densely populated civilian areas, also illegal and something that unfolded live on TV. There was the equally obvious massive shelling of civilian neighbourhoods, with the equally unavoidable loss of human life, as well as the deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure, from roads to factories. Finally, there was the illegal use of unmanned aerial drones, which in several cases caused the loss of life of children and other unarmed civilians. These well documented instances of war crimes, some more serious than others, are also backed up by the figures and the facts.
