Council gives sheriff 5K for jail food
LA PORTE — The La Porte County Council unanimously voted Monday night to give La Porte County Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer 5,000 for food for offenders housed in the jail and 0,000 for medical costs for offenders. Mollenhauer said there were 384 offenders in the jail Monday. The cost of food the jail was paying was .04 per meal per offender, below the state allowance of .19 per meal.
