Connection between Meth use and Hypothyroidism?
First of all, I will start by saying that I am a recovering meth addict and have been clean since 02/06/06. After I got clean, I gained weight, as I knew I would, but it hasn’t stopped! I finally saw a doctor a week ago, and I was diagnosed with a slightly under active thyroid, which she says will only continue to get worse and I must have it checked every 2 months. At this point they are not looking into treatments for the disease, as it is at the borderline for under activity.
It just hit me today that this may be a result of my own past actions! So, I haven’t had to the chance to ask my doctor just yet. Does anyone out there know if there could be a connection between an under active thyroid and the abuse of meth? Could I have caused this myself?
Please, I don’t need undermining comments about my past abuse of drugs…I know it was wrong, I have completely changed the way I live my life. If you don’t know the answer to the question, don’t waste my time with your rude remarks–they help NO ONE.
I’m not complaining about the weight gain, I knew I would gain weight…only makes sense to. I was wondering if my meth use could have caused my condition of having hypothyroid.
I did not have this condition prior to my abuse of drugs. I’ve been clean for 2 1/2 years and it is just surfacing now.
