Why do people do crystal meth?

Question by somegirlsomewhere: Why do people do crystal meth?
Are they that stupid and have that little self respect, or is it more complicated reasons like peer pressure, or a feeling of depression, darkness, and hopelessness?

BTW I think “because I was curious” is a stupid reason. I’ve always been curious to burn down a house, walk to the grocery store naked, or jump off of a 75-ft tower but that doesn’t mean I’d actually do it.
Addiction? I mean why do they even begin? And as far as slipping it into another drug, why other stupid illegal drugs either? But crystal meth sounds especially bad, it makes pot sound like bubblegum cigarettes.
