I lost my singing voice!?! I desperately need to sing again. Please help.?
Question by TwiZtedT: I lost my singing voice!?! I desperately need to sing again. Please help.?
I am 35 and I have sang passionately my entire life. I need to know if the damage I did is repairable at all on my own. I did a lot of stupid things to my voice so here’s a little of that information: I smoked for 23 years, and quit nearly 3 months ago. I always smoked regular light cigarettes but didn’t notice my vocal range start to change until I was in my late 20’s. I (hate to admit it) smoked methamphetamine for 2 out of the 3 1/2 years I used it(1999-2002). During that time I noticed sometimes my voice would crack much like a boy in puberty. I quit (thank god) and regained a lot of quality although my range wasn’t as high, and sang to my baby boy all the time. No significant change during or after pregnancy. I do believe the source of the problem was when I switched to a weird cigarette. Anyhow I smoked the weird ones for 4-5 years and my voice slowly started disappearing. After going under anesthesia 4 times in just over a year my singing voice was pretty much gone. (20066-7) My dr. and I thought quitting smoking would fix this. I did notice a huge improvement after about a month and then I went berserk at karaoke night and now I got crap again! Actually, it’s nearly worse now. PLEASE what can I do? Do I have nodules or whatever they’re called? I have bought singers throat spray (GAG) and it doesn’t help. I remember it used to do wonders… I am currently uninsured so a specialist at this time is not an option. THANKS FOR ANY HELP! 😀

So bad…so sad. I dont know if you voice is too hoarse now or just cracking at the end of long held note. if too hoarse and there is change in timbre of voice then vocal chords are suffering unrepairable damage. It needs surgery…and no garunteee that your voice will do wonders again.
If only cracking at end of long held note then that very minor case and vocal nodule can be gone and voice can be re-established to its techniques bysimply keeping Mum (silent mode..lol) for a week or so just to keep from further permanent damage.
