I want him to be aware that his father does love him and they reason he is there. I also want him to be aware of the dangers of the drug.

A four year old is not ready to comprehend all that information or understand it.

A four year old is not ready to understand the complications that drugs do to ones life. As he grows he will learn it because you will teach him when he is ready to understand it.

Let him be a child. Don’t make him grow up before he should because you made bad decisions about who you wanted to father you;’re children. It is not his fault and you should not expect him to accept any responsibility of it.

Let him know his father had to go away, let him know his father loves him. That is all you need to let him know right now.
