how do i talk to my six year old niece about her mums drug addictions?

Question by rubyblue: how do i talk to my six year old niece about her mums drug addictions?
her mum is trying (but not yet succeeding) to stop using crack cocaine and heroin. although my niece has not seen her mum use in front of her, she has been affected by her mums mood swings etc. there is no question that she knows somethings up. we definitely want to be open with her and honest, but i need to know what the appropriate language would be in a situation like this. thank you.
please can i have less of the opinions and more actual answers to the question people? is that too much to ask? you think im not already aware of the child welfare issues – if im concerned enough to be worrying about how to talk to my niece i am obviously an involved auntie… as it happens she is staying with her gran and my sis is in rehab. she is a good mother who has had incredible emotional challenges in the last two years. don’t be so quick to judge!

You don’t.
You should try to figure out how to remove that child legally from her before she hurts her.
