Xanax withdrawal symptoms?

Question by Stacy: Xanax withdrawal symptoms?
I have been taking up to 1 mg of Xanax per day for about 3 years. I am weaning off right now – I am down to .375 mg per day (.125 in the morning and .25 at night). I am going to reduce by 1/4 again in about 4 days. The reason I’m discontinuing the Xanax is I no longer have health insurance and my doctor won’t prescribe for me unless I come in and pay per office visit each time. I can’t afford to do this monthly. I have no history of substance abuse and do not drug-seek.

What I’m wondering is if I should be afraid of seizures or bad withdrawals. The only symptoms I’ve noticed are headaches, feeling sort of dizzy and “off-kilter,” a little diarrhea and some nausea. I am hoping I won’t have to break down and go back on Xanax. How long should I experience these withdrawal symptoms and can I expect worse ones? Thanks!

Those are typical withdrawal symptoms.
I think you should tell your friends and family what you’re doing if your doctor isn’t involved.
