From what I’ve heard, Salvia is not likely to have any of the negative effects associated with other hard drugs like cocaine or the methamphetamines. That is, it is not physically addictive and as a chemical, salvinorin is harmless to the body.
However, in considering long term effects, there is not much research data on the subject. Most information comes from personal use and seems to lean in the direction that Salvia has no long term negative
This does NOT mean that Salvia can’t cause problems. As with LSD, salvia is not physically addictive, but can still be habit forming on account of the effects it produces. Just as one should play video games in moderation, Salvia should be done in moderation. However, most people that try Salvia dislike its effects and discontinue it use.
