I’m a divorced, joint custodial father of a seven year old girl. She told me during my visitation that her mother “pops her on the mouth” as a means of discipline. My personal beliefs about this is that adults are much bigger and stronger than children, and they can’t possibly defend themselves against us. I believe that makes it wrong to physically strike them as a means of discipline when there are other effective methods, such as time out, time alone in their room, loss of privaleges, grounding, etc.

My question is: Regardless of the fact that I disagree with it, is it “illegal”? How do I find out, and in either case, what should I do?
