A Thai ex-con boxing champion signs film deal

Anna Chan: A former Thai drug dealer and holder of a women’s world boxing title will have her life story immortalized in film. Samson Sor Siriporn signed a contract in Bangkok yesterday with production company Women in Focus Productions. Here’s more. Siriporn was sentenced to 10 years at the age of 17 for selling methamphetamine pills. She took up boxing to pass the time in prison. She went on to win the WBC light-flyweight title last year. She fought Japan’s Ayaka Miyano at the notorious “Bangkok Hilton” prison. Her victory secured her early release in July… three years early. [Samson Sor Siriporn, WBC Champion]: “I feel so glad to sign the contract today. I never expected I would have today.” The founder of production company, Women in Focus Productions, says Siriporn’s life story would make a good film. [Niramol Sriyanond, Women in Focus Productions]: “If we happen to find a film which has the main female character as one in our country who committed a wrongful act, it will be a big support for teenagers and the next generation on how to seek a way out like she did.” Siriporn is the first prisoner to win a WBC title. She currently serves as a WBC Ambassador of Goodwill.
