Question by annaliese cc: Can someone please explain to me what alcohol intervention is?
My friend is talking to me, she has a brother who is an alcoholic. She said something about alcohol intervention. Just then, though, our conversation got cut off, so I didn’t get to ask her anymore what it means. Anyway, I want to find out for myself. Can somebody give me information about this?

Alcohol intervention is usually used to get an alcoholic agree to the prospect of treatment. It’s also a way of preventing further alcohol dependency. This is done by close friends or family members of the patient, and sometimes, with professionals called intervention specialists. They will explain the negative effects of being alcohol dependent and point out strategies that will help the patient reduce his alcohol consumption, or even better, go into abstinence. This kind of intervention has already been successful in decreasing alcohol dependency, drinking, and other problems interrelated with alcoholism. It’s proven to be effective, but the patient must still undergo treatment such as counseling, therapy, and medication.
