would a good friend tell their friend’s parents about their drug use?

i recently told my best friend’s parents that i am worried about my friend who does pills. her mom knows that she messes w/pills, so it’s not like i broke the news. i’ve tried talking to her about it a million times, but she doesn’t seem to listen. i even wrote her a personal letter a couple months ago addressing my concerns. the past couple weeks i’ve ignored her calls b/c i got fed up. before i started ignoring her calls, she would say “i’ve been sober for 3 days” then the next time i’d talk to her she would have done some more pills and go back & fourth b/s’n. she’s not an addict so she really has no excuse to keep doing what she’s doing. i felt the need to send her mom a letter b/c as her best friend (now maybe ex-BFF) what kind of friend would i be if i just sat around & watched her sidestroked or possible kill herself? i would feel extremely guilty if something bad happened to her w/o me trying to do something to help. i’ve already lost one friend to drugs & i would hate to lose another. i have addicts in my family and i’ve seen what it does it ppl’s lives & the letter was simply of concern & explaining that i don’t think she realizes the possible consequences of her actions, talking about the addicts in my family & what it’s done to their life..telling them about the TV show Intervention & also an article on prescription drug abuse. i know for someone to stop doing drugs or anything in life they have to want to & it’s obvious that she doesn’t. i allowed her mom to show my friend the letter & after she read it she called me & left me the most brutal mean msg possible. it made me feel horrible & guilty for what i did. 🙁 did i do the right thing? i mean, wouldn’t any good friend, do anything to help someone (especially a best friend) in need?? especially w/the recent death of michael jackson, this started weighting heavy on my mind.. please let me know your thoughts…THANKSSSSS! 🙂

info on my friend- 21, no job, part-time student, relies on parents, hangs out w/an old man who refers himself as her “sugar daddy” who gives her pills, yet she denies sleeping w/him…
