How do I immobilize crank in order to get torque to remove pedals?

Question by Barometer Soup: How do I immobilize crank in order to get torque to remove pedals?
I have the right wrench to remove the pedals on my bike, but when you apply pressure/torque the crank just spins backwards. Is there a trick to stabilizing/immobilizing the crank so that you can apply sufficient torque to unscrew the pedal?
