Drug dealer shot dead in Melbourne

April 13th 2007- Channel 10 news A Melbourne man with a criminal history was blasted to death through his bedroom window early yesterday as his girlfriend looked on in horror. Charlie Attalah, 56, had been sleeping beside partner Alexia, a nurse at a Melbourne prison, at their rented house in Heyington Ave, Thomastown. But shortly after 4am there was a knock at the bedroom window, and the father of two got up and opened it. A gunman then shot him a number of times to the upper body, killing him instantly. Alexia, who witnessed the shooting, was uninjured. Police later revealed Mr Attalah was known to them and was on bail on drug trafficking and manufacturing charges. It’s understood Mr Attalah had drug connections, including to fugitive drug kingpin Tony Mokbel. But acting Sen-Sgt Grant Kelly said police had no suspects and had not established a motive for the killing, and there was no evidence it was an underworld hit. “Two persons, a male and female, are home in the bedroom of the house. There’s a knock on the window; the male answered, and he was shot several times in the upper torso,” Sen-Sgt Kelly said. Forensic experts analysed shells outside the bedroom window. Mr Attalah’s friend and landlord, Lupco Slaveski, said he was saddened by the murder. Mr Slaveski said Mr Attalah was a good man.
