Don’t Let the Economy Destroy You!
by Layne Polzin
Listen to the signs!
Government jobs are cutting back, homeless tent cities are growing and values are dropping.
There is no doubt that the economy is in a downward spiral. Everyone is feeling the affects from the greeters at the stores to the executives for fortune 500’s. I have seen major retail stores to local markets closing up shop. Just last night we were in a major retail store talking to a employee who told us that they have over stocked there shelves and now must offer 30% to 50% sales + another 30% off the discounted price to clear there inventory.
Listen to the signs….Gerald Celente! The markets do, the major news corporations do, and the public does.
Here is what Gerald Celente is forecasting our future will bring:
– “America’s going to go through a transition the likes of which no one is prepared for,” said Celente
– “There will be a revolution in this country,” said Celente
– “The first thing to do is organize with tax revolts. That’s going to be the big one because people can’t afford to pay more school tax, property tax, any kind of tax. You’re going to start seeing those kinds of protests start to develop.”said Celente
– Tent cities are already sprouting up around the country and we’re going to see many more.” said Celente
– “We’re going to start seeing huge areas of vacant real estate and squatters living in them as well.” said Celente
– “And the crime is going to be a lot worse than it was before because in the last 1929 Depression, people’s minds weren’t wrecked on all these modern drugs – over-the-counter drugs, or crystal meth or whatever it might be. So, you have a huge underclass of very desperate people with their minds chemically blown beyond anybody’s comprehension.” said Celente
“The economy is now locked in a vicious downward spiral in which employment, incomes and spending are collapsing together,” said Nigel Gault, chief U.S. economist at IHS Global insight.
Even if the government acts quickly and stems the slide in the financial markets and the economy, some economists believe the jobless rate will top 10 percent before beginning to subside. If this recession drags on past mid-2009, it would be the longest since the Great Depression. (The recessions of 1973-75 and 1981-82 both lasted 16 months according to the National Bureau of Economic Research.)
In any case, the eventual recovery will likely be more gradual and weaker than after past recessions, according to Stuart Hoffman, chief economist at PNC Financial. As stated on http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28071887/page/2/ .
There is signs all around us that today we are in a severe, prolonged economic RECESSION and possibly headed for a DEPRESSION. Current polls shows that 60% of Americans think we are headed for a Depression.
Gut check time!
Ask what your gut tells you. If you’re not convinced that we are headed for serious trouble, read the article on: Scary Parallels of 2008 vs 1929 Stock Market Crash & Depression.
Personally I am an optimist.
But realistically I don’t like what I see in the future. So I am voting for being prepared. The choice is yours.
What are YOU doing to prepare?
It was hard to imagine this would take place in our lifetime…again, but it is. So what steps are you taking or do you even know what to do.
Here are a few things I am doing personally:
1) STORE A FOOD SUPPLY. – Get a 6 month to 1 year supply where possible.
– Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits and vegetables. (Be sure to include a manual can opener)
– Canned juices, milk and soup (if powdered, store extra water).
– High energy foods, such as peanut butter, jelly, crackers, granola bars and trail mix.
– Comfort foods, such as hard candy, sweetened cereals, candy bars and cookies.
– Instant coffee, tea bags.
– Foods for infants, elderly persons or persons on special diets, if necessary.
-Compressed food bars. They store well, are lightweight, taste good and are nutritious.
– Trail mix. It is available as a prepackaged product or you can assemble it on your own.
– Dried foods. They can be nutritious and satisfying, but have some have a lot of salt content, which promotes thirst. Read the label.
– Freeze-dried foods. They are tasty and lightweight, but will need water for reconstitution.
– Instant Meals. Cups of noodles or cups of soup are a good addition, although they need water for reconstitution.
– Snack-sized canned goods. Good because they generally have pull-top lids or twist-open keys.
– Prepackaged beverages. Those in foil packets and foil-lined boxes
2) STORE HYGENIC ITEMS – Family essential
– hand soap
– deodorant
– shampoo,
– shaving razors
– tooth paste
– feminine hygiene items
– child diapers
– etc.
3) CASH ON HAND – Keep a personal stash of cash
– Don’t cash out everything just get a good amount for emergencies.
– A reserve of 3 months living expenses AWAY from your bank.
– Keep this to yourself…….for your own safety and do not tell anyone about it.
– Get only $1, $5, $10’s & $20’s for this reserve. Only cash out less than $10,000 at a time to avoid bank reporting rules.
4) GOLD & SILVER RESERVE.
– Buy easy access Silver first. These are U.S. 10, 25 & 50 cent coins minted in 1964 or before. They are available at most coin stores and many pawn shops and are sold by the single coin or bag .
– Check the INTERNET for their current pricing. Call around and get price quotes.
– Gold – get coins in small qualities from local coin stores and some pawn shops
5.) LIVE ON LESS – Learn to live on less than your income. You may see pay cuts in your job during an economic recession, so look now for way to trim your budget as much as possible.
6.) VEHICLES – Downsize vehicles and sell luxuries such as jet skis and sailboats. During an economic recession you may not have the funds to enjoy these things.
7.) COOK AT HOME – Learn how to cook at home. Bake bread, make beef/chicken stock, can veggies, etc..
8.) TRACK YOUR SPENDING – Control your spending. Reduce your expenses. Everything from the cable, water, gasoline to the coffee you get daily.
9.) HELP LOCAL SHELTERS/CHURCHES – Giving is good. Offer time, old toys, food, old clothes, etc. Every little bit helps
10.) STOP STRESSING! – Show your family how important they are to you. Don’t let the stress break the family bond. Lead by example, the family looks up to the parents. You are teaching them how to get through the hard times.
