If a child ‘diagnosed’ with ADHD who was prescribed to ritalin refuses to take it, but is force-fed anyway..?
Question by Γνῶθι σεαυτόν zeitgeist pirate™: If a child ‘diagnosed’ with ADHD who was prescribed to ritalin refuses to take it, but is force-fed anyway..?
..doesn’t that have worse psychological ramifications than the medication would have (hypothetically) resolved?
I know of an instance where parents have (in a very disturbing manner) force-fed their child this medication because the child no longer wanted to take it; the child was complaining that it kept him up at night and made him sick at the stomach. The parents insist that the child needs it to moderate his behavior. I understand that the symptoms of ADHD or ADD are rather comparable to the same affects that bad parenting would have. I feel like calling Child Protection Services.
*The pharmacological effects of this drug are almost identical to cocaine and amphetamines such as methamphetamines, and is the use of this drug justified in general when it is prescribed to children who have no significant neurological deficits?
*Are ADD or ADHD legitimate psychological disorders backed by empirical evidence?

I’m a teacher. Ritalin or other stimulants work for some kids with ADHD and doesn’t work for others. Some kids need it, others don’t. Anyone who works with a lot of kids know that ADD/ADHD is a legimate DSM-IV disorder but like any diagnosis, it can be made incorrectly.
Call CPS if you wish, that’s their job.
