Ban: Drug trafficking, abuse hindering MDG efforts
Drug abuse and drug trafficking are hindering efforts to achieve the United Nations’ Millenium Development Goals, according to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. “Our work to achieve the MDGs and fight drugs must go hand-in-hand. In seeking to eradicate illicit crops, we must also work to wipe out poverty,” Ban said. Drug-related crimes “deepen vulnerability to instability and poverty,” he said.
