I just lost a friend to an opiate crack cocaine overdose, and wonder why people do that stuff?

I had a friend that was addicted to xanax and valuum, but decided to hang out with drug dealers the past three months, and overdosed on crack-cocaine, and opiates. I want to think that he is hearing everything I tell him now that he has passed. But I don’t know? I believe in God and hope that he knows how much I loved him and hopes he realized that he messed up?
