What are some side effects/signs of a painkiller addiction?

I work with someone that I’m pretty sure has an addiction. When they don’t have pain pills they always have a headache or some sort of ache. They constantly complain that they’re coffee or their food tastes funny. We get food from the same places, and mine has never tasted funny.
