An Adult with ADHD is Very Difficult to Deal With!

My son is living proof of an adult with ADHD.

He is turning 21 years old and is suffering from all types of mental problems.

He is a tremendously gifted person that got somewhat of a bad hand dealt to him early in his life.

Now I know for a fact that there are many great parents out there that are drug and alcohol free and still have children with ADHD. Who knows why, they just do!

In my son’s case I am sure that the causes of ADHD in him were due to his biological parents doing all kinds of drugs, including cocaine and meth. On top of that they were both alcoholics.

You see he was born addicted to cocaine and spent the first three months of his life going through withdrawals. That is when he came into our home. We love him unconditionally!

As an adult he suffers from other mental disorders but I will focus on the ADHD for now.

For him his mind continually races, not ever really able to focus on one thing most of the time.

There is an exception to this and that is if he gets focused on something then you almost can’t drag him away from it.

He loves video games. Oh my gosh does he love video games, but these unfortunately are the worst thing for him.

He also gets bored very quickly. He paces a lot and needs to constantly be doing something even if it’s not productive at all.

He has gone through numerous jobs. Most didn’t last even one month. He is currently unemployed.

In our sons case he sleeps long periods of time, and generally when you don’t want him to be sleeping.

Currently he is living in his own apartment thanks to the State, and it stays trashed.

He will tell you yes to something and I truly believe he means it, but will turn around and do something opposite almost immediately.

He is a very likable person, but does not have a lot of friends because he does the same things with them that he does with us. That is why he doesn’t last long on any job. Employers don’t care, and I don’t blame them, if my son is an adult with ADHD.

Yes, there are adults with ADHD and it is hard to deal with. Just ask us we are his parents. See below for my blog address where I talk about raising my son and my other three children. My wife and I have been married for over 25 years and have a lot to offer through the school of hard knocks.

Follow the story of all my experiences, whether good or bad, as a parent on my blog Leadership Skills for Life. I just started talking about our son as an infant and toddler.
