why does marijuana make some people paranoid?

Question by The GZA: why does marijuana make some people paranoid?
THC mimics the dopamine neurotransmitter… therefore when THC is in the brain, dopamine is released for a long period of time.. I though dopamine is supposed to be a relaxing chemical that makes people happy… my question is why does it make a lot of people paranoid… when paranoia naturally occurs without a stimulant, is dopamine being released? what are some other natural uses for dopamine performed by the body?

I think it’s more of the stigmata of feeling like you’re doing something wrong and everyone knows about it. You just don’t want to get caught and dopa-mine usually enhances your feelings good or bad. Dopa-mine is a natural chemical released by the brain to produce pleasure in order to re-enforce behaviors we need to survive. Eating and sex are the largest re-leasers of dopa-mine naturally.

“”I have seen many cases of exacerbations of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder brought on by marijuana use,” said psychiatrist Kenneth Certa, M.D., a member of the Section Council on Psychiatry. “Another problem I can see is that the marijuana in the community is often not very pure and is frequently adulterated with PCP [phencyclidine, an hallucinogen], which can also
cause problems with psychosis.” – http://psychnews.psychiatryonline.org/newsarticle.aspx?articleid=112336
