Nut allergy question? Please help… “burning mouth”?

Question by OwlWHOWHO: Nut allergy question? Please help… “burning mouth”?
Hi, some months back I started to get a bad metallic, salty, burning taste on my tongue. I did everything possible to try to solve it, including going to the dentist and the doctor. I got no direct results from anything. For about 1-2 months I stopped drinking almond milk, and eating any nuts. Well it went away. Now it is about the 2 month mark. Nuts are one of my favorite foods, I really want to deny that they are/were causing the problem with my tongue, and wanted to test out my conclusion and make sure it is not a coincidence.

So 3 days ago I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, nothing happened. 2 day later I ate another PB&J “that was yesterday” now today I think I am getting the burning problem back on my tongue. I am just not sure, if it is a peanut allergy or if I just think I am “if this time it is just in my head”. I tired to do research and nothing comes up with a peanut allergy causing a burning tongue sensation.

I would like to know if it is even possible for a peanut allergy to even cause a burning mouth sensation? and would like to know if anyone else has experienced it?

Thank You if you read this, and reply.

Look, assume it is an allergy. And forget that it’s one of your favorite foods, you have to. Allergies can develop with increased usage and get worse. That it’s one of your favorite foods has made it the problem. The more you eat them the worse it gets. So, if you want to be able to even have them once in awhile you will have to give them up. Limit yourself to once a week for now and see if that’s enough. You cannot fool around with allergies, they can develop into life-threatening health problems. My nephew nearly died and found out the hard way that you can’t screw with allergies. Now, I want to just smack you a little bit here – nothing in your head will cause a burning tongue sensation – that’s your brain trying to justify eating the nuts, so just stop that. Yes, it’s possible for the peanuts to cause a burning sensation – heat, swelling, rash are allergy symptoms. That burning is inflammation, the tissue is becoming inflamed by the reaction to the peanuts.

And one last thing, your ‘craving’ for nuts may well be the allergy – like an addiction, you can crave the thing that is the worst for you. Stop eating nuts, you’ll feel better, and in time the cravings will calm down.
