Does Extacy affect your judgment?

Question by Violet L: Does Extacy affect your judgment?
Extacy= A.K.A. Rolls, Kool Beans, X, XTC, Ectacy

My friend and I were once interested in each other and were involved for a while, and there is still obvious tension between us. He now has a girlfriend though. We are going to get high on extacy this weekend together and I don’t want anything to happen between us, we wont hook up will we?

something will definitely happen, you’ll be rolling out of your mind. Whether it “means” anything, I guess that’s between the two of you.

As I am sure you know that you and I can not see the future so there is no absolute yes or no.

Almost any drug with strong psychotropic effects will effect judgement.

To be honest there is certainly a significant risk, especially if his new girl friend will not be there. Most people don’t typically have a problem if they truly have no intreat in the other person. If “something” still exists then there is a much greater change of something happening.

Ecstasy (MDMA) will lower inhibitions and it causes a feeling of closeness, a feeling of love for everyone and everything, euphoria, stimulation, and typically some mild psychedelic effects. Before MDMA became a club drug or a drug of abuse it was used by psychiatrists in couples therapy to provide that a feeling of love would be formed and the psychiatrist could make far more progress in a few hours on MDMA than he would normally make in months. And people had a better chance of staying together from the short MDMA therapy compared to years of therapy. It also causes a feelings of empathy so each partner can help “feel” the others emotions.

I will give you the most extreme example of an MDMA experience I have very scene. Basically some people went to a club and everyone did MDMA. Well two of those people were brothers and both were straight but at one point they started to make out. I was not there for this, it was discussed by one of the brothers and his psychiatrist but I was interning under the doctor, sitting in the corner hearing about this.

That is truly extreme but you might not have the judgement and control you normally have. I have been to clubs where MDMA is commonly used and normally there are one or two people ripping their shirt off, heavily sweating, touching people, saying “I love you so much” to everyone so the effect can be intense. The fact you are concerned is probably an indication you might reconsider. But then again it could all be fine.

Lastly, if you do use remember to say well hydrated, don’t drink alcohol or use other drugs. If you take antidepressants, particularly MAOI’s or tramadol you should not take MDMA. And use common sense.
