In the USA, I know that there are 4 different types of non-profit member-run community support groups that are available without the payment of a profesional fee. But members do have modest dues, in order to pay for their meeting place, literature and newsletter. Those 4 organizations are:
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly)
http://www.tops.org
Local group members share their experiences in losing weight, weight management, menu planning, coping skills, motivation and exercise. Has online listing of local support groups. The organization promotes a sensible approach to managing weight as a life choice. Their weekly meetings emphasize personal recognition and mutual support for one’s own weight loss. National dues are $ 26 a year in the USA; and $ 30 a year in Canada, for which one gets the organization’s newsletter/magazine. Local groups often ask for a donation to pay for incidental costs of the local meeting. But there is no fee paid to any professional.
Overeaters Anonymous
http://www.oa.org
A 12-step fellowship of men and women who meet to help one another understand and overcome compulsive eating. They also have a monthly magazine, literature, and a few groups and literature for young persons and teens. Local groups “pass the hat” for donations to pay for incidental costs of the local meeting. But there is no fee paid to any professional.
Food Addicts Anonymous
http://www.foodaddictsanonymous.org
A 12-Step fellowship of men and women who are willing to recover from the disease of food addiction. Primary purpose is to maintain abstinence from sugar, flour and wheat. Information and referral, pen pals, online chatroom, email loop, phone meetings and conferences. Assistance in starting groups. Online listing of local support groups. Local groups “pass the hat” for donations to pay for incidental costs of the local meeting. But there is no fee paid to any professional.
Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous

A 12-step fellowship addressing all forms of food addictions, including undereating, overeating, and bulimia through purging and/or exercise. FA members are all ages and in all walks of life. Literature, phone support, and an on-line listing of meetings. Local groups “pass the hat” for donations to pay for incidental costs of the local meeting. But there is no fee paid to any professional.
