I’ll make a long story short. Never been sober since 12. Big pothead at 12. First sip of Alcohol, age 12. Did it prolly every weekend or every other weekend. Smoked pot everyday. Had a mild hallucination and delusion while I smoked heavy amounts of Marijuana at about 13 or 14. I hate typing 13 because of my OCD. Bad number. Had OCD since age 12 before I started doing any drug. Robotripped every Friday about age 14 to 15? (Robotrippin: Drinking a bottle of Robotussin DM) Very worried. Consumed lots of Benzos (Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, etc.) Did every drug in the book except PCP and maybe crack (I don’t know if it was crack or crystal meth). I only liked to take Benzo’s, smoke pot, and drink, started doing this everyday at age 18. It got out of hand. Went to detox quit the Benzo’s & Pot as of May 1st. Both give me panic attacks and made me a hypochrondriac. Now I only have drank since then everyday then I went to detox because I was withdrawaling and thought I was going to have a Alcohol withdrawal seizure (DT’S?). I am now in AA and have a sponser, its really helpful I have been sober 5 days. I go to AA everyday and my sponser LOVES when I call and its nice to have someone to talk to. I feel really insane and “unreal” I don’t know how to act, hang with, or do anything now that I’m sober but its a must and I’m sticking to it. No looking back. Will I have permanant brain damage?? Will I become Schitzophrenic in the future?? I do not hear voices or see things. Just that one time when I was younger when I was smoking really alot of pot everyday all day. I stay busy I go for walks get job applications and go to AA. I am getting my car soon. WILL I BE LIKE THIS FOREVER AND IF NOT HOW LONG WILL THE BENZO AND ALCOHOL ABUSE IVE DONE TO MY BRAIN & BODY LAST? Thank you.

I do not think you can get schizophrenia from doing those things. With schizophrenia, you only get it in one of two ways – 1. It runs in the family, genetic or 2. There is a certain STD that if you get it and don’t get it treated, you can develop schizophrenia. I forget which STD it is.
But no, I don’t think schizophrenia will result for your past. The hallucinations were probably due to the drugs.
Good luck with staying sober. I know it is a very tough battle. Stick with your sponsor and the AA meetings. They can really help you. And ask them this question, you just asked us here. They’ll be able to give you alot more detailed information on it.

No you cannot get schizophrenia from drug or alcohol use….. you can permanently eff up your brain but it’s still not Schizophrenia.You need to give your body and mind a minimum of 6 months to recover from that kind of abuse….. if you are still having symptoms after 6 months it’s likely permanent.
