-System of checks and balances
-Gave people there natural rights- life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness
-Established a government to protect the peoples rights and judge those who violate them
– Belief that rebbelion was justified if if the ruler no longer had consent of the people
-Stated that people were basically reasonable and cooperative
