Is this person “paranoid” or legitimately concerned?
Question by What’d I Say: Is this person “paranoid” or legitimately concerned?
A guy moves into an apartment with his partner. He’s an artist and his partner works as a teacher. The guy works from his home. For one month they got settled but then the owner allowed people on the first floor to move in who on the third day started arguing violently at times. The police showed up three times in one month. Complaints were made to the owner and the broker, but just about nothing was done. Notice these details:
1. The guy begins to assume the brokers ignored a bad background check on the problematic tenants so that the owner could fill an apartment vacant for 5 months.
2. He has made a recording of their arguments in which he could hear through the floor someone called another person a “meth head” and said “all you do is smoke meth.” The guy is now afraid he has drug addicts living below him.
3. The guy is afraid the violent arguing is a sign that these people should best be avoided. He chooses not to say hello to them.
4. He noticed that there are new people who seem to be there in addition to the other residents and is afraid they are criminals or drug addicts and need to be reported to the owner.
5. He wants to write letters to the owner until he gets confirmation from him regarding what specifically is going to be done to stop the disturbances. He notes that he and his wife are experiencing trouble sleeping and feeling safe because of the violent arguing.
