Was the ban by the FDA on the plant extract ingredient “Ephedra “in diet supplements political.?

Question by 747: Was the ban by the FDA on the plant extract ingredient “Ephedra “in diet supplements political.?
My understanding is there were about 150 incidents over a 10 yr period connected to Ephedra. Very few of these were actually deaths and the incidents had a high rate of improper use. It seems political because Tylenol has really done a number on people.
I remember using Hyroxycut when it had Ephedra. Many in fitness including myself really miss when products had it. Workouts were incredible and food craving were kept at bay which kept the waist trim. If your not into working out, you wouldn’t understand. This in turn I think why so many people were sheep going along with the bad press.

ephedra is a key ingredient in the making of crystal meth. the ban is a good thing and will make it harder for pushers to make and sell the drug.
