Ever owned a Devon Rex?
Question by Allanas: Ever owned a Devon Rex?
It’s like keeping the Tazmanian Devil in your house. They are a high energy, “in your face” breed, which I knew when I got her, but this is insane! She knocks everything on the floor and breaks things. If I set down a cup or a book for just a second, she’s right there pushing it off on the floor. She tries climbing picture frames and knocks them all on the floor. She’s constantly pestering me to play, until I get out a toy, then she goes and sits under the table and ignores me and the toy.
She rubs up against me, hops in my lap for a cuddle, then bite holes in me with no warning at all. I can be sitting next to her, not touching her, not moving and BAM – I’m bleeding.
There’s never any peace. There’s never any calm. Even cats need “down time”…right?
I have 3 cat climbers, all over 6 feet tall. I have gallons of cat nip, hundreds of dollars in toys of all shapes and sizes, I even mounted wall shelves for her climbing pleasure.
She ignores it all in favor of using ME as a scratching post, biting and yowling constantly.
I completely revamed my yard into a cat safe paradise. Grass, plants, hiding spots – nothing. She’s still making me look like a Freddy Kruger victim on a daily basis.
Any ideas?

Sorry, there is a very famous quote, ” The word Pandemonium can be described as four Devon Rex and a staircase” which basically means they are the most hyperactive destructive little demon cats you have ever seen! It helps if you have more then one Devon, that way they have someone to interact with who is as hyper and destructive as they are, believe it or not it curbs their interest in destroying your property and body. Most of them aren’t as bad as your’s so, you are going to have to cycle through toys and scratchers until you find something they like, I have a laser pointer, the little monsters will chase it for hours, anything shiny or quick moving they are attracted to it is inherent prey drive. As for down time, you picked the wrong breed for that, Oscar and Cookie, my Devons have personalities that more resemble a Meth addicted Jack Russell, I know it is hard but, eventually you will find something to distract them. They can be lovable , if not a little insane, a spray bottle of water helps to curb there destructive streak, at least momentarily, until you find something else.
