For years I have been concerned about treatment of women in the Muslim Community. But now I see that the Quran does not always endorse violence against women, and many women choose to follow this path and find peace and enlightenment in it. Not every woman is abused, subjected or doesnt have a voice. However, what about the Muslim women and children that do undergo abuse? What about honor killings and the women that are hurt because they dishonor a Muslim family. What about the women and children that are raped and nothing is done about it? I know we cannot place the blame on the entire religion of Islam. There are political problems and people that do this even though the religion says not to. But everytime I say I want to help abused women in the Muslim community, I get fierce opposition from women. I dont get opposition when I say I want to help abused women in the U.S. Africa, or India, but when I want to stop violence against women in Muslim Communities, they say STOP! We are not all abused or killed or degraded. So if everything is so fine and dandy and perfect in the Muslim World, shouldn’t I just give up and let them deal with it themselves and not raise awareness anymore? There are other women I could help, I guess. So many of them say “I’m not abused” or “My husband treats me well” But what about the women in Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, or Iraq that have no choice in the way they live? Should I just give up?

And as a side note….. I KNOW WE CANNOT PLACE THE ENTIRE BLAME ON ISLAM. I KNOW THAT THERE ARE PASSAGES IN THE QURAN THAT LIBERATES WOMEN AND GIVES THEM RIGHTS!!! I KNOW THAT! I AM JUST ASKING WHAT DO I DO ABOUT THE MUSLIM WOMEN THAT ARE SUFFERING. TRUST ME I DO MORE WORK FOR WOMEN RIGHT HERE IN THE U.S.A. I KNOW THAT ABUSE HAPPENS EVERYWHERE!! I AM JUST WONDERING IF I SHOULD LEAVE MUSLIM WOMEN OUT OF THE WORK THAT I DO TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT ISLAM SINCE THEY HAVE IT SO GREAT, AND SINCE THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE IT UNDER CONTROL
