In the Coast Guard, what is considered a “drug incident?”?

Question by LadyM: In the Coast Guard, what is considered a “drug incident?”?
I cant find any thorough details on what is considered a drug incident. If you self refer for a drug incident, will you still be discharged? Like, if you admit to taking a pill thats unauthorized and you were not arrested, and you self refer because of it, is that still grounds for a discharge???
I’ve been searching everywhere for answers. If I get discharged, I want to know what kind it will be. I told my CDAR about it, (drug and alcohol rep) and hes taking forever to call me back.

I don’t know about the Coast Guard but in the Army we have a program called the ASAP or the Army Substance Abuse Program. Commanders refer soldiers to this program if they test positive for drugs or if they have alcohol problems. Under AR 635-200 which is the regulation that deals with enlisted separations in the Army says in Chapter 9 that if a soldier fails ASAP then the command can discharge the soldier. However if the soldier self refers and fails anyway then that soldier is entitled to an Honorable discharge. Look to see if there are any reguations in the Coast Guard that deal with separations and find out if it’s the same in the coast guard.
