STNA / CNA Pass/Fail Question?
Question by Dustin: STNA / CNA Pass/Fail Question?
I took my STNA skills test today and got the following skills:
Handwashing, Abdominal Thrusts, Urinary Drainage Bag, Weighing an Ambulatory Resident, and Male Cathether Care. I know I did good on everything, but my only question is regarding the abdominal thrusts. I did ALL of the bold steps (including asking the actor if he was still choking, and telling the observer what I would do if he answered “yes”). My question is, the very LAST step in the skill is to put the resident in the Recovery Position. I did this the correct way, but I forgot to raise the bed rail. Do you think this would fail me, even if it wasn’t a step in the skill book? I was too focused on putting him in the correct position, that I forgot to raise the rail before I rolled him on his side, but she didn’t mention anything. I know they aren’t supposed to “help” you, but I was doing something slightly wrong in Catheter Care, and the observer ‘coughed’, looked at me, and then ‘coughed’ again. I fixed the problem, and continued and she sat down. I hope I passed, and I think she would have ‘coughed’ if I didn’t raise the rail for the Abdominal Thrust skill. My only concern is, is that raising the bed rail, or checking the bed brakes (while common sense, when not panicking) was not listed as a bold step or a step at all for that matter.
Thanks in advance!

I personnally dont think that this one oops will make you fail the entire skills test. They usually fail you when it is a combination of oops.

My Fears of Recovery – Recovery is a scary process and its not unusual for those suffering from an ED to have fears of recovery. However fears need to be faced, and one day these fears will begin to fade.
