Question about joining at 26?

Question by Space Jew: Question about joining at 26?
I’m 26, have no criminal background (a couple speeding tickets at worst), have some college, and have worked in management for the last couple years. My dad is retired from the Army; he was in the Navy when I was born and transferred to the Army when my sister was born so that he could see more of us, so I grew up largely on base and am generally familiar with military life. My dad didn’t want me to join so I didn’t… he still doesn’t want me to… but I’m getting to a point where I feel like my job (I manage a hotel in Downtown San Francisco) is unfulfilling and I’m not contributing to the greater good of our country, and I need to do what I feel is right. I’ve always really admired our troops, and I’m pretty sure I want to be one of them.

I’d like to join the Navy and eventually apply for the Medical Corps… if not the Navy, then the Army. The two biggest hurdles I can see are:

1. I’ve got about 4k in debt and it’s basically all in collection; would this bar me?
2. I’ve smoked pot before but was never an “addict.” I don’t have any substance abuse issues. Would past marijuana use bar me?
3. I’m 72 inches tall (6’2), and weigh about 220. The limit is 201 for my height. I’m in reasonably good shape and would probably drop to around 200 in basic training (I’m a REALLY stout dude, I doubt I’d get below 190 without looking like I was going to die). Would I have to drop to this before I join?

I’m going to see a recruiter on Monday, but thought I’d ask here first.

Nate Eachus! Actually, also big props to Stephenson and Allen who were playing very well toward the end of the game. Eachus probably has no shot at making the roster but he showed nice speed, vision and patience. He could land on the practice squad.
